Chronic Dev-Team Releases Greenpois0n Jailbreak for iOS 4.1

The Chronic Dev-Team has released Greenpois0n, their utility for jailbreaking the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch on iOS 4.1.

After much controversy, the tool has been updated to use the bootrom exploit found by Geohot.

Unfortunately, only a Windows version is currently available; however, a mac version and ipt2g support are coming soon.

You can download Greenpois0n from here.

Initially, this will be a Windows-only release. This is due to some technical complications that we soon hope to correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks to geohot for the bootrom USB exploit. We have opted to use that instead of SHAtter for the sake of exploit presevation.

This release of greenpois0n supports:
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 3G S
- iPod touch (4th Generation)
- iPod touch (3rd Generation)
- iPad

Soon there will be another release, adding things like support for:
- Apple TV (2nd Generation)
- iPod touch (2nd Generation)

Apple’s rumored iTV rebranding makes UK broadcaster ‘furious’

A new rumor suggesting the Apple TV could be redesigned and renamed the iTV has caused a stir with ITV, the oldest commercial television network in the U.K.

Even though the Apple iTV name is not official, Mirror.co.uk reported on Friday that executives at the ITV network were “furious” and met with lawyers this week to “stop the move.” The network is reportedly looking to achieve a global ban, preventing Apple from using the name in any territory.

“You only have to look at recent problems with the iPhone 4 to see not everything Apple produces is gold dust,” a source told the publication. “We all take our ITV brand very seriously and we’ll do everything in our power to protect it.”

ITV is a public service network that serves as a competitor to the BBC. The station was launched in 1955.

Of course, it’s all speculation at this point, as Apple hasn’t even announced the alleged Apple TV redesign, let alone officially settled on a name.

The controversy at the ITV network erupted after it was reported this week that the next Apple TV will be renamed to iTV, and will run the iOS mobile operating system. The rumored device will allegedly have a targeted starting price of $99, and will stream 720p content to users’ HDTVs.

Having a product with an already-established name is, of course, nothing new for Apple, particularly for its ‘i’ products. In 2007, it announced the iPhone, only to be sued days later by Cisco, which owned the rights to the name. The Linksys iPhone was released just three weeks before the Apple iPhone was introduced at the Macworld San Francisco keynote in early January 2007.

Apple TV (iTV) Will Initially Stream iTunes to the US Only?

ComputerWorld is predicting that the new Apple TV (iTV) will initially serve the US market only before expanding to international markets.

Here’s their reasons:

1. It helps keep things secret. The more people you negotiate a deal with, the more people know a deal is being made, news then leaks. Apple will initially achieve permissions for its streamed cloud-based media service from a handful of major US names.
2. Steve Jobs loves America. He does. He’ll always give the US the best deal. He’s a patriot. That’s how it is.
3. Broadcasting rights holders. Have you ever tried to release a compilation album? I have. In music you need a contract, a lawyer and must reach so many deals that by the time you get your compilation together you’ll be wondering why you ever bothered attempting to in the first place. It is even worse when it comes to TV transmissions: are you negotiating single use? Purchase? Rental? It is dizzying.

Rumors surrounding a new Apple TV (renamed iTV) have been running rampant with the latest predicting a device which offers apps but does away with 1080i video. Hopefully Apple will unveil the new product alongside its camera equipped iPods in September.
