Update: The Latest Scoop On iPhone 4 Jailbreak

Everyone on the net seems to be asking the same question, when will the jailbreak for iphone 4 come out. Here is the latest scoop for those who don’t follow closely and for those who just can’t stop refreshing their browsers obsessively waiting for the jailbreak.

Musclenerd a member of the dev team recently tweeted that the jailbreak was not to be released last Sunday like everyone assumed. He also stated a very good reason as to why they haven’t released a the jailbreak yet.

As you can see the dev team actually cares about releasing a stable and 100% working jailbreak. From the picture above, we all now know one reason the jailbreak isn’t released and that is the iphone 4′s main feature which is facetime video calling gets broken (I read it disappears). We also can’t forget the other important apps whatever they may be musclenerd mentions.

A good thing is that planetbeing another dev team member stated that the iphone 4 unlock they have works well on the latest firmware 4.0.1 for the iphone 4. To everyone wondering about the release date, lets just say they are working hard on it and they will release it when ready.

Thanks to comex for tweeting, we now have a better understanding of when the jailbreak will be released. As you can see above comex is not waiting for a certain day to release his jailbreak. It is plain and simple, comex will release the jailbreak when it is ready. Whether it be tomorrow or a few weeks from now, when the jailbreak is 100% it will be out

Apple to launch iPhone 4 in 17 more countries Friday

The international expansion of the iPhone 4 continues this week, as Apple’s latest handset will launch in 17 new countries on Friday, July 30.

Beginning this Friday, customers can purchase iPhone 4 in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. The handset will be available for purchase through Apple’s retail and online stores, as well as Apple Authorized Resellers.

The iPhone 4 first launched in the U.S., France, Germany, Japan and the U.K. in late June. It is available for a suggested retail price of $199 (U.S.) for the 16GB model and $299 (U.S.) for the 32GB model. Apple said its latest smartphone will roll out to many more countries later this year, and availability and local pricing will be announced at a later date.

Apple’s rollout of the iPhone 4 represents the fastest international handset ramp-up yet for the Cupertino, Calif., company. It is expected to launch the iPhone 4 in 87 total countries by the end of September, a pace much faster than many who closely watch the company expected.

Though Apple is an American company, the international market has come to play a very important role for the iPhone maker. During last week’s quarterly earnings conference call, Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook said the company’s overseas numbers were “absolutely killer.”

Apple’s international expansion of the iPhone 4 on Friday will come just a week after one of the company’s other blockbuster portable devices, the iPad, also saw its overseas market presence increase. Last Friday the iPad went on sale in nine new countries, many of which will also receive the iPhone 4 this week: Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore.

T-Mobile, Apple rumored to be in ‘advanced talks’ for Q3 iPhone launch

T-Mobile USA is said to be in discussions with Apple to bring the iPhone to the wireless carrier fall, ending AT&T’s exclusive hold on the handset, according to a new rumor.

Citing a “highly placed source” at T-Mobile, Leander Kahney at Cult of Mac reported Wednesday that the wireless carrier and Apple are in “advanced talks.” He placed an 80 percent likelihood that the iPhone will become available on T-Mobile’s network this fall.

Apple became interested because of the influence of T-Mobile’s parent company, Deutsche Telekom, the source indicated. T-Mobile is the smallest of the four carriers in the U.S., with 33.7 million customers.

As it currently is, the iPhone 4 is not compatible with T-Mobile’s high-speed 3G network in the U.S., as the carrier uses the unique 1700MHz spectrum. The iPhone is compatible with UMTS/HSDPA 3G connections at the frequencies 850MHz, 1900MHz and 2100MHz. In other words, the handset would need a new internal radio to work with T-Mobile’s network.

Apple and AT&T originally agreed to an exclusive deal through 2012, though it’s believed the terms of that contract likely changed over the years.

The latest rumor comes as most expected the iPhone to first head to Verizon, as both The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg reported this year that Apple is working on a CDMA iPhone that would be compatible with Verizon’s network. Unlike T-Mobile’s network, which uses the same technology but operates on a different frequency, Verizon is a completely different technology, which would require a more drastic redesign of the iPhone.

unlock iphone 4

If you don’t know, Planetbeing and MuscleNerd have been working on iPhone 4 unlock for a few weeks now. They found an exploit to unlock iPhone 4 and then come up with 3 ways to take advantage of that loop hole to inject the baseband unlock. Planetbeing had already unlocked iPhone 4 using on of the 3 ways (Demoed here) and now MuscleNerd has implemented the unlock using the 2nd way. They’ll release the one which is more stable, fast and easy.

This is what MuscleNerd has tweeted:

Yay, got the 2nd of 3 ideas working. http://is.gd/dxTwO <- my ultrasn0w’d iPhone4. Now @planetbeing and I can compare

Here’s the screenshot of unlocked iPhone 4 he shared:

iPhone 4 antenna hardware fix anticipated as some orders are delayed

As some customers have had their iPhone 4 orders delayed, a new rumor suggests that Apple will offer a free “brute force” internal hardware fix to existing customers in order to improve the device’s antenna.

Analyst Ashok Kumar with Rodman & Renshaw spoke with AppleInsider on Thursday and revealed that overseas suppliers have indicated to him that Apple has decided on a hardware fix for the iPhone 4. He said sources have told him that the “mechanical fix” is the equivalent of placing a rubber stopgap on the inside of the phone, leaving the outside of the device untouched.

“From a cosmetic purpose, it’s going to be completely transparent,” Kumar said. “But from an engineering perspective, it’s going to be more of a brute force than an elegant addition.”

The goal, he said, aims to offer a quick fix to address concerns for customers. Kumar said it doesn’t make sense for Apple to recall all iPhone 4 handsets and rebuild them from scratch with a “clean slate” design.

But Kumar said he expects the iPhone 4 antenna to be redesigned and fixed internally with a more “elegant” engineering solution when the Verizon iPhone 4 launches in the near future. He said it would also make sense for Apple to eventually apply the same internal fix for the current UMTS iPhone as well, once demand has been met.

“They’re going to have a much more elegant design instead of putting a mechanical contraption inside,” he said.

Kumar also said that AT&T has seen its fill timeline for new iPhone 4 orders stretched out to 8 weeks, suggesting delays in the manufacturing process as Apple settles on its approach. Recently, AT&T was waiting just 7 to 10 days for iPhone 4 orders.

In addition, AppleInsider has received word that some people have been notified that their iPhone 4 orders have been delayed. Some received e-mails direct from Apple citing an “unexpected delay.” There has not been any indication that the delay notifications are widespread yet.

Kumar said he believes Apple decided to hold a press conference on Friday because the company’s quarterly earnings report is next Tuesday. Addressing the antenna issue before then could save the company the burden of being bombarded by analysts about the issue next week, when the company’s executives conduct their quarterly conference call.

Kumar was criticized last year after he noted that iPhone sales in China were “disappointing” before the device was even on sale. Also, in January of this year, he said he was told that the iPad would be available on the Verizon network through a subsidy — a prediction that proved false. However, last fall, Kumar also correctly stated that Google would release its own custom-built handset, which came true when the Nexus One was announced.

Last year, Kumar told AppleInsider that a CDMA-only iPhone with a chipset from Qualcomm will be released for the Verizo

Apple engineer warned Steve Jobs about iPhone 4 reception last year

An Apple engineer warned the company’s executives last year that the design of the iPhone 4 could lead to reception problems, and a carrier partner also expressed concern about its external antenna before the June launch, according to a new report.

Citing an anonymous source, Bloomberg reported on Thursday that last year Ruben Caballero, a senior engineer and antenna expert with Apple, told management at Apple that the design of the iPhone 4 could cause reception problems. Specifically, it said that Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs was warned of the issues during the design phase of the iPhone 4.

In addition, an unnamed carrier partner allegedly expressed concern to the company before the device’s launch on June 24.

Apple declined to comment for the story, and would not make Caballero available for an interview. The media outlet also attempted to e-mail Caballero directly, but the engineer did not respond. The company also declined to reveal what it will discuss at a press conference scheduled for 10 a.m. Pacific Time Friday.

The rumor casts doubt on speculation that Apple’s secrecy may have caused the company to be oblivious to the issues experienced when the iPhone 4 is used without a case. A prototype device being tested by an Apple engineer that wound up being publicly disassembled was shielded by a case that made it look like a previous-generation iPhone 3GS.

“Apple’s industrial design team, led by Jonathan Ive, submitted several iPhone designs before Jobs and other executives settled on the bezel antenna, said the person familiar with the company’s design,” the report said. “Caballero, the antenna expert, voiced concern in early planning meetings that it might lead to dropped calls and presented a serious engineering challenge, the person said.”

Specifically, Caballero allegedly voiced concern that if a user used their hand to bridge the gap between the cellular and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/GPS antennas on the exterior of the device, it could interfere with the signal. That’s exactly what independent wireless experts and the nonprofit Consumer Reports have said occurs with the final product.

By covering the bottom left corner of the device, users can bridge the phone’s two external antennas by using their skin as a conductive agent. Doing so can cause signal to drop by as much as 24.6dB, tests have shown, which could result in slower data speeds and dropped calls in areas with poor reception.

Planetbeing: the first and only unlocked iPhone 4 shown in two videos!

These days we have kept informed about events of the Dev Team and Jailbreak iPhone el’unlock 4, and just yesterday Planetbeing, a team member, managed to unlock the baseband of the new iPhone model thereby allowing use with foreign SIM, and below are two video demonstration.

In both videos, the boy shows us the first and only 4 iPhone unlocked and working perfectly with foreign operators. Currently exploits found for the release of the baseband are 3, and what you see in the video is Planetbeing. The Dev Team is working and then testing all three methods and then release the more stable.

The boy tells us that the release is not yet final because the phone takes about 5 minutes to boot. This means you unlock, nor the jailbreak are ready to be released right now but this week should be no new updates.

Planetbeing made this second video in response to the Engadget guys who have doubted the first, asserting that those screens are easy to distort. In this new movie then shows your SIM Roger (Canadian operator outside AT & T) and will also make a call to the number of customer service. There are just no doubt: the release took place!
