How Much Data 3G FaceTime Uses

Many people are curious to know how much data FaceTime over 3G actually uses. We put two iPhone 4s to the test, one running FaceTime over 3G, and took before and after screenshots of the data. As you will see, if you do the math, a 5 minute FaceTime call with lots of movement used 14.7 MB of data.

Guide:New i-Device Jailbreakme 2.0

1. What is JailbreakMe 2.0?

This is the latest cross-device/firmware jailbreak by comex. It was released on Sunday, August 1 (like the previous jailbreak, carrying over the “Sunday is Funday” slogan many veteran jailbreakers and unlockers are familiar with.

2. How Does this Jailbreak Work?

All you have to do is visit http://jailbreakme.com on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, ‘Slide to Jailbreak’ and wait for the rest of the process to take place on your device.

If that link is not loading, please use ModMyi’s alternative link to jailbreak your device.

3. My Device Just Hangs at a Purple Screen. What do I do?

This will usually mean there was a problem connection to the server and whatever you’re attempting to do isn’t working properly. After sliding, a windows should appear and you should notice a process similar to the one in the images below. If your jailbreak does not appear similar to mine, then something had gone wrong. Reboot and attempt the jailbreak again.

Please note that this process may take a few minutes, so be patient. It should look a little something like this:

4. Something Went Wrong! What do I do?

Please post any bugs below in the comments section or email comex at: comexk@gmail.com with a detailed log or error report and provide him with visuals if possible.

5. Where’s the iPhone 4 Unlock?

Simply install unltrasn0w through Cydia like you did on older iPhone models and your iPhone 3G S and/or iPhone 4 should be unlocked.

6. My Device Needs to be Activated, so what do I do?

You’ll need to purchase an official SIM card for the carrier your iPhone is locked to or purchase a phonebook SIM online and activate it that way. A quick search on Google/eBay should turn up a few different phonebook SIM cards that work on any iPhone.

This jailbreak IS NOT a hacktivation tool, so you must activate it through iTunes first.

iPhone 4 Being Used To Make Porn?

This one might hurt El Jobso more than Antennagate!  According to the AP,

When Apple Inc. launched the iPhone 4 and its FaceTime videoconference feature, it didn’t take long for adult-entertainment companies to develop video-sex chat services and start hiring workers through Craigslist.

With more than 3 million of the phones already sold, the adult industry stands to make big money on this new way to reach out and touch someone — even if it puts Apple, which has always taken pains to keep its iPhone apps squeaky clean, in an awkward spot.

In at least five cities, Craigslist ads seek models specifically for video sex chat on FaceTime. Many of the ads even offer to throw in a free iPhone 4 for the new employees

Apple dropped the iChatr Chat Roulette clone (genital cam) from the App Store only after a week of availability.

From the picture above, we all now know one reason the jailbreak isn’t released and that is the iphone 4′s main feature which is facetime video calling gets broken (I read it disappears). We also can’t forget the other important apps whatever they may be musclenerd mentions.

A good thing is that planetbeing another dev team member stated that the iphone 4 unlock they have works well on the latest firmware 4.0.1 for the iphone 4. To everyone wondering about the release date, lets just say they are working hard on it and they will release it when ready.

AT&T activates record 3.2 million iPhones, with 27% new accounts

The iPhone single-handedly brought 860,000 new customers last quarter to wireless provider AT&T, the exclusive carrier of Apple’s handset in the U.S.

AT&T announced its quarterly earnings Thursday morning, and revealed that it had earned $30.8 billion in revenue in its second fiscal quarter, amounting to $0.61 earnings per share. Helping the company to those numbers was Apple’s iPhone, of which the carrier activated a record 3.2 million in the three-month period.

AT&T said that 27 percent of those 3.2 million iPhone activations were from new customers, which means the device brought 860,000 new subscribers to the carrier. Last quarter was bolstered by the launch of the iPhone 4, of which Apple sold 1.7 million in the first three days internationally.

The ratio of new customers is lower than the previous quarter, when AT&T activated 2.7 million iPhones, of which more than a third were new subscribers.

AT&T again noted that iPhone 4 preorder rates were 10 times higher than the first day of preordering for the iPhone 3GS in 2009.

AT&T’s earnings per share were up 25.9 percent from the same period in 2009, and revenue increased $194 million, or 0.6 percent. The earnings per share beat Wall Street expectations, while revenue was lower than anticipated.

The iPhone helped AT&T reach 1.6 million net adds in total wireless subscribers, which was the company’s best-ever second quarter. AT&T now has 90.1 million customers in service.

Wireless revenues increased 10.3 percent, and postpaid average monthly revenues per subscriber were up 3.4 percent. Wireless data revenues grew even greater, up $936 million over 2009, for 27.2 percent year-over-year growth.

“We delivered another strong quarter, with improved revenue trends, double-digit earnings growth and solid cash flow. These results add to our confidence going into the second half of the year,” said Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and chief executive officer. “We continue to see positive signs of growth in almost every customer segment of our business, especially wireless, which speaks to the quality of our execution and our leadership in the industry’s most powerful growth driver — mobile broadband. I am excited by the opportunities ahead.”

ZAGG has announced their protective invisibleSHIELD for the iPhone 4 will also solve reception issues with the spot.

ZAGG has conducted extensive testing to determine if our products can help this problem, including internal tests, independent lab tests, and research with consumers in the wireless industry. Although the signal strength bars may still decrease from your hand covering the antenna, our results show that each of our solutions help prevent dropped calls and data connections.

The invisibleSHIELD (Maximum Coverage) includes strips to cover the antennas/stainless steel frame for $24.99. They also offer a sides only design for $9.99.

iOS 4.1 Beta Doesn’t Fix iPhone 4 Antenna Issues

It seems that the new iOS 4.1 software update is not fixing any issues with signal loss on the iPhone 4 surprisingly. Obviously Apple can’t fix the hardware problem the iphone 4 antenna is causing but they can fix the way the signal bars are displayed and how signal strength is calculated.

Users that have updated to the new 4.1 firmware are reporting that they are getting less bars than they use to on the old 4.0 firmware, thus meaning apple may have corrected the signal bars display to be more accurate. I’ll keep you posted on more 4.1 details as soon as they are available.
