Step 1

Download the required stuff:

• Download iOS 4.1
• Download Greepois0n

Step 2

iPhone 4: If you don’t need to unlock iPhone, simply update to iOS 4.1 via iTunes. But If you depend on unlock, follow the guide linked below to update your iPhone 4 to iOS 4.1 without upgrading its baseband:

iPhone 3GS: If you don’t need to unlock iPhone 3GS, simply update to iOS 4.1 via iTunes. But If you depend on unlock, AVOID iOS 4.1, Greepois0n, Limera1n and wait for the PwnageTool to come out (hopefully within a week.)

Step 3

Connect your iPhone 4 / 3GS to your computer and turn it off.

Step 4

Now execute the downloaded Greenpois0n jailbreak (from step 1).

Step 5

Now hit the “Prepare to Jailbreak (DFU)” button on the Greepois0n and follow the on screen instructions to put your iPhone 4 / 3GS into DFU mode.

* If you find on screen instructions difficult to follow, we have an easy guide to: put iPhone into DFU Mode.
* If you think your device is in DFU mode but Greenpois0n is not detecting it, hit the “Prepare to Jailbreak (DFU)” button again.

Step 6

Once you’re into DFU mode, Greepois0n will tell you that your device is ready to jailbreak.

Hit the “Jailbreak!” button and Greenpois0n will start jailbreaking your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS.

Step 7

Once the process is successfully completed, Quit button will appear on Greenpois0n window.

That’s it. Check for the Cydia icon on your iPhone home screen. Have fun with your jailbroken iPhone 4/3GS on iOS 4.1

As you may know Geohot came out of no where yesterday and released his Limera1n jailbreak. Because of this the Chronic Dev Team decided to wait and not release their jailbreak. Why you ask?

The reason for not releasing today is because chronic dev team is going to use Geohot’s Limera1n exploit in Greenpois0n instead of their own SHAtter exploit.

This is a very smart decision as if they were to release their own tool with the SHAtter exploit implemented then that would be a waste of an exploit. SHAtter will be saved and used on a later firmware or even better yet a next gen idevice.

1. What is JailbreakMe 2.0?

This is the latest cross-device/firmware jailbreak by comex. It was released on Sunday, August 1 (like the previous jailbreak, carrying over the “Sunday is Funday” slogan many veteran jailbreakers and unlockers are familiar with.

2. How Does this Jailbreak Work?

All you have to do is visit http://jailbreakme.com on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, ‘Slide to Jailbreak’ and wait for the rest of the process to take place on your device.

If that link is not loading, please use ModMyi’s alternative link to jailbreak your device.

3. My Device Just Hangs at a Purple Screen. What do I do?

This will usually mean there was a problem connection to the server and whatever you’re attempting to do isn’t working properly. After sliding, a windows should appear and you should notice a process similar to the one in the images below. If your jailbreak does not appear similar to mine, then something had gone wrong. Reboot and attempt the jailbreak again.

Please note that this process may take a few minutes, so be patient. It should look a little something like this:

5. Where’s the iPhone 4 Unlock?

Simply install unltrasn0w through Cydia like you did on older iPhone models and your iPhone 3G S and/or iPhone 4 should be unlocked.

6. My Device Needs to be Activated, so what do I do?

You’ll need to purchase an official SIM card for the carrier your iPhone is locked to or purchase a phonebook SIM online and activate it that way. A quick search on Google/eBay should turn up a few different phonebook SIM cards that work on any iPhone.

This jailbreak IS NOT a hacktivation tool, so you must activate it through iTunes first.

After months of silence, Geohot has finally published a new blog post in which he talks about iPhone 4 jailbreak situation, limera1n, and Pwned4life exploit which he recently talked about at the Nuit Du Hack conference in Paris. According to his latest blog post, he has managed to jailbreak his iPhone 4 the day it got delivered to him by mail. This is what he writes on his blog:

As far as a release goes, it probably won’t happen from me. limera1n is little more than a raindrop on a website; it was never mentioned by me previous to this post. pwned4life is a complete invention of some blogger in a basement somewhere. When I said pwned for life, I was referring to the original iPhone, 3G, and Touch; which of course are, by the aptly named PwnageTool.

Again, please don’t ask for release dates. Every person that does makes me want to release a little bit less.

As for the release dates, it probably wont happen from him.
